DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT: Editte Keshishyan

READ THE INTERVIEW

Growing up in an environment influenced immensely by art and fashion, Editte Keshishyan spent most of her time sewing clothes and accessories for her dolls, listening to her mother speak about fabrics and patterns, and observing her father sculpt shoes out of slabs of leather.  In 1988 they moved to the US from Armenia where she continued living in a fashion oriented setting.  In college she majored in Fashion Design and Merchandising and  soon after graduating she worked as an assistant designer for Delia, where she experienced all aspects of the industry.  In 1991 she was given the opportunity to work at Herve Leger, a couture house in Paris, where she was able to refine her skills in design and workmanship.  After working for a period of time in Paris, she returned to Los Angeles to work as an assistant designer at BCBG.  Not  much later she decided that it was time to start her ideal line of sexy, sophisticated, and feminine clothing with an edge, defining the woman who inspires her.

In 2003 she was approached by the upscale Los Angeles boutique, Curve, to sell her Spring/Summer Collection, which was very successful.  Other boutiques soon followed along with a celebrity clientele.  Only one year later Editte was chosen to show at the Gen Art Fresh Faces of Fashion Spring 2004 Show.  This gave her line a great opportunity for exposure in various industry papers such as Women’s Wear Daily and Apparel News, and magazines LA Confidential and In Style.  Editte was also one of the designers showing her Fall 2004 Collection at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Los Angeles.  The show was a great success and got much press from The Los Angeles Times, Apparel News, Elle Magazine, and CNN.  There was also interest from buyers such as Barney’s, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, including small upscale boutiques.  This line showcased her love for rich fabrics in extraordinary colors and sexy shapes, whether tailored or draped.

Her impressive list of stores include Big Drop, Planet Blue, Helen Yi, Chroma, Nordstrom, and other boutiques across the US and clientele including Angelina Jolie, Rachel Bilson, Marley Shelton, Tracee Ross, Eve, Brittany Murphy, Jennifer Garner, Jennifer Lopez, Mya, and Mandy Moore among many others   Editte Keshishyan is based out of the very diverse and colorful city of Los Angeles, seeking inspiration in its people, their cultures, art, and music.
