DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT: Marc Bohbot

READ THE INTERVIEW

True Meaning, the new contemporary collection under the creative and design direction of Bisou Bisou founder Marc Bohbot, is all about a fresh approach to dressing. Bohbot sensed a need for trend-conscious, high-quality clothing and created True Meaning in 2003 with those intentions in mind. “True Meaning is a new statement for fashion,” says Marc Bohbot, “ We want to appeal to the sophisticated and feminine side of the client and bridge the gap between casual and luxury.” With that in mind, every True Meaning collection is based upon the jacket – the most important silhouette according to Bohbot. Each collection is filled with box jackets, one-button notch collar jackets, trenches, ponchos and coats. The True Meaning jacket goes perfectly with jeans, trousers or a skirt from the collection. In fact, their jackets are the basis for a new and very modern interpretation of the classic twin-set. All you need is one of their jackets paired with one of their stylish tops underneath and you have the “True Meaning” twin-set. For that extra touch, every jacket comes with Marc’s signature, coordinating flower pin either in faux mink or in a chiffon and tweed mix.

Marc Bohbot was born in Morocco and moved to France in his early teens. It was while in France that Marc realized he wanted to work in the world of fashion. It was also in France that Marc met his wife & partner Michele. In 1987, Marc and Michele, along with their three children, left France for America to pursue the “American Dream”. When they arrived in Los Angeles, they had to learn the ins and outs of the American fashion industry. They quickly learned them and in 1989, Bisou Bisou, which is French slang for “a little kiss”, was launched. With Bisou Bisou, Marc and Michele delivered their version of Parisian street fashion with a modern style that American women would understand and appreciate. The Bisou Bisou collection enjoyed immediate success with both retailers and press. In Bisou Bisou’s 15-year history, the company has become a worldwide fashion leader with annual revenues of $80 million dollars. Bisou Bisou has boutiques throughout America, and in 2003 signed a licensing agreement exclusively with JC Penney.

After only two seasons, True Meaning is debuting their Spring /Summer ’05 collection during LA’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studio .

True Meaningis currently available at Nordstrom, Macy’s, Lord and Taylor, and specialty boutiques nationwide.

True Meaning has been featured in publications such as, Teen Vogue, Elle Girl, Lucky, Cosmopolitan and Glamour.
