First the incredibly talented designer/businessman Marc Bohbot created the powerful line Bisou Bisou….now there’s a new line – True Meaning, a contemporary collection that is all about the dressing. Find out about his first runway show,, how he gets inspired for collections and where he shops…
Factio Magazine: How did you get your start as a fashion designer? Please comment on your school training and/or experience!
Marc Bohbot: In Paris is where I learned to be a merchandiser, designer and businessman of course. Es Mode in Paris also taught me a lot of who I am today career wise.
FM: Who were your most influential mentors? What moves you and inspires you each season?
MB: Louis Arnault of LVMH. What moves me is the street vibe woman carry walking on the streets. Magazines also inspire me.
FM: How was your first runway show experience?
MB:I found it be very rewarding on both a personal and professional level. The show has motivated me to take different angles in the business.
FM: What is your most memorable moment to date in your career?
MB: The slinky that my wife and I created with Bisou Bisou. Looking back, it was such a craze.
FM: Where did you get your inspiration for your Spring 2005 collection?
MB: We are a jacket driven company. Watching girls in the streets of LA, NYC, and Paris in their jeans and vintage jackets is what helped me inspire my spring collection to the vibe of my company.
FM: Describe the personality of the woman who wears your designs.
MB: Sexy, hip and cool of course. She is a confident woman and knows what she wants.
FM: What is your signature style? And, how does your trademark look translate to your designs?
MB: Definitely jackets with novelty fabrics, trims are my signature styling. True Meaning is allowing the woman to be show her true meaning of fashion.
FM: Where do you see yourself five years from now? How about 10 years from now?
MB: 5 years-Changing the standard True Meaning corporate America look. 10 years- going public
FM: Do you plan to project your designs globally?
MB: Yes of course and I already have distribution agreements in place worldwide aside from domestic product licenses such as Footwear, Fashion Jewelry and Outerwear.
FM: Which celebs were seen front row at your show for Spring 05? And, more importantly which celebs wear your clothes?
MB: Front row at our show- Bai Ling, Christine Divine, Bobby Sue Luther

FM: Where do you shop in LA? How about the rest of the globe?
MB: I shop the streets of Robertson to La Brea in LA. Globally, I hit every happening street in Europe to Asia to see what the woman is wearing.
FM: What designers do you look up to? Whose clothes and shoes can you not stop buying? Any wardrobe tips?
MB: Karl Lagerfeld. I just can’t stop buying Jill Sander. Wardrobe tips- be yourself
FM: If you could change one thing about how people dress what would it be?
MB: I would not change anything. People all have their True Meaning of Individual style.
