DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT: Angela Batinovich of Bat’s Daughter

READ THE INTERVIEW

There's a lot of truth to the affectionate term, ‘daddy's girl' in up and coming fashion designer, Angela Batinovich's life. In fact, growing up in the San Francisco area she was always simply known as ‘Bat's Daughter'. Forget the cartoon superheroes and teenage heartthrobs; her father was Angela's greatest source of inspiration. From a young age, she carefully watched as he created and molded his company to the point of taking it to the New York Stock Exchange. From the youngest age, Angela embraced the business world. In her own venture, Angela is collaborating business and art to create what is sure to be one of the fashion industry's hottest new labels – Bat's Daughter.

She grew up with a business frame of mind, so it's only natural that Angela would study business and marketing in school to obtain the fundamentals to form her own company. Upon graduating from Loyola Marymount University, she set out on the adventure that many college grads face – finding that perfect suit for interviews! In her shopping adventures she found herself wondering why she could never find a line of clothing that suits women with a love for all things girly, yet professional (such as the jacket without the shoulder pads suited for a football player). And, that's when Bat's Daughter was born. With a creative edge, Bat's Daughter takes professional clothes to the next level – a collection of clothing sophisticated enough for work, but full of enough attitude for social events. The Fall 2004 collection will launch at Los Angeles Fashion Week in March 2004.

Citing Donna Karan, Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford and Liz Claiborne as her fashion idols, Angela hopes to one day have her own type of “Liz Claiborne Inc.” She is well on her way to achieving that goal as she created AMBLA, INC., a company that she plans to use to invest in other small start-up fashion lines. With two companies under her belt and an eagerness to obtain more, it's safe to say that the roles have reversed and her father can only be so proud to be “Angela's Dad”.
