BocUe Bags – They are elegant, fresh in design, craft and beauty. This new line of modern leather handbags balances elegant geometric silhouettes in contrasting colors with the luxury of individual design and quality construction. Bags are numbered to reflect each unique shape and season, with constant focus on new styles that are straightforward and stylish yet fun and practical enough for everyday use. Designer and Artist, Theresa Buffo, introduced bocUe bags & design in 2002
The spirit of the original bocUe collection was found in a guitar maker’s shop in Grenada, Spain. For spring 2004, bocUe continues with signature organic silhouettes in bright new colors – delicate fuscias, burnished violets, warm terracottas and soft ocean greens combined with rich sandlewood tones. Custom designs include handbags and totes with various handle styles cut to fit comfortably in the hand or on the shoulder, along with new clutches and leather accessories that can be attached to a belt or belt-loop.
Factio Magazine: What are your inspirations when you design a collection?
Theresa Buffo: My best ideas come about spontaneously … sometimes when I wake up first thing in the morning a new silhouette comes to mind and I immediately sketch it, then later make a quick paper mock up. Once a color combination resonates with my senses, the shape or silhouette comes to life…but everything under the sun is fair game for inspiration, including art history, travel and music.
Factio Magazine: What's more important to you functionality or style?
Theresa Buffo: For me, style is first, but function is fundamental to the integrity of the design. A bag must be appealing to the eye and easy on the hand or shoulder. I cannot design bags that do not function, its not in my vocabulary.
Factio Magazine: Who is your biggest fashion icon and why?
Theresa Buffo: I appreciate fashion icons with an elegant and earthy sense of style such as Miuccia Prada and Dries Von Noten – but I am most inspired by smaller labels from young designers who have more freedom to create. I enjoy and support new ideas from artists & designers who place an importance on craftsmanship and beauty.
Factio Magazine: When wearing one of your colorful bags, what would you suggest the rest of the ensembe be?
Theresa Buffo: I think bocUe bags are very versatile for day into evening. One of my favorite combinations are jeans with a shirt, suit jacket and boots – its fun and classic at the same time.
Factio Magazine: Has one of your bags been seen on the arm of a celebrity? If not, what celebrity can you see wearing one?
Theresa Buffo: My line is still relatively new so we do not have a celebrity or stylist following as of yet. Locally, I could see Oprah wearing a bocUe bag – her pioneering and genuine spirit fits the bocUe brand image. We are headed to Los Angeles in a few weeks, we’ll see who we bump into…
