Although spa facials come with the promise of brighter, clearer, more youthful looking skin, there are both pros and cons to any skin treatment. Experts say that facials should be done every four to six weeks, and similar to the effects of a regular oil change on your car, can keep your skin healthier in the long run. With any sort of skin treatment, especially chemical peels or deep pore cleansing facials, one should keep in mind that it is not a good idea to get it the day of a big event. Even though your skin will definitely feel and look cleaner, the effects of exfoliation and chemicals can often times leave your skin looking red and splotchy. Deep moisturizing facials can give your skin some extra needed moisture during harsh winters, but can occasionally leave your hairline oily with residue from oil-based products used during the process. Bottom line, facials are a necessary part of skincare maintenance, but like Botox or laser treatments you should give yourself a few days for your skin to recover. -Nicole Simone
