Factio Talks Fashion With Wes Gordon

We wouldn't mind having Wes Gordon's entire fall 2011 collection.

The young, talented designer showcased his latest presentation at the ritzy St. Regis hotel in NYC where chandeliers made for perfect backdrops to his high-waisted pants and stunning fur trimmed coats, creating the perfect tailored collection for the upcoming fall season. We had a chance to talk fashion with Gordon, including where he finds inspiration, his best fashion week moment (and the most stressful), and what job he could do well if he weren't an amazingly talented fashion designer.

FACTIO MAGAZINE: Tell us about your fall 2011 collection.
WES GORDON: My recent fall collection was about making luxury relevant to a younger generation. I based the collection on what I imagined to be the ideal fall wardrobe of a chic and modern woman in 2011. All the pieces are special and beautifully made but, most importantly, they’re versatile and able to be worn many ways (day-to-evening, casual-to-dressy) and for many years.

FM: How are you inspired?
WG:
I find inspiration in so many places. I’m a huge film buff and am constantly finding inspiration from amazing movies. But, the women I know are probably my biggest influence. I’m constantly thinking of how my girlfriends would wear a piece and what they’d like for the upcoming season.

FM: What was it like showing your latest fall 2011 collection during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week? Best moment? Most stressful moment?
WG:
Amazing. I was incredibly proud of this collection and it was so much fun to present it to my friends and family. The best moment? Seeing it all come together with the models all dressed, standing in the beautiful St. Regis, while the amazing Niia sang Rolling Stones. The most stressful moment? Trying to get everything finished, fitted, and perfected in time for a presentation on the first day of fashion week!

FM: Who is the "Wes Gordon" woman?
WG:
She’s confident and elegantly edgy, while also being a tiny bit sultry.  Above all else, she knows and appreciates beautifully made, special garments.

FM: What are people surprised to know about you?
WG:
Growing up, I spent every summer in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. As a result, if I feel like a career change, I’d make a great cowboy!!! I can rope, ride western, race, etc. Plus, I have a super cool old leather cowboy hat.
