The next time you covet a pair of red-soled heels, they may not be Christian Louboutins. The luxury shoemaker is fighting a losing battle to prevent its trademark red soles from being produced by other shoemakers; namely, rival company Yves Saint Laurent. Louboutin’s lawsuit against Yves Saint Laurent is likely to be tossed out by the U.S district judge on the premise that Louboutin's ownership claim to a red sole would simply harm competition and pave the way for a multitude of other related lawsuits in the fashion world. Yves Saint Laurent on the other hand, is pleased with the ruling. They have been manufacturing shoes with red soles since the 1970s and looks forward to continue doing so.
