Chanel’s spring couture collection caught many by surprise.
Before the show, Lagerfeld explained, “fashion is about the evolution and the opposite,” but WWD felt it was only the opposite. It was different than previous collections, but not in a bad way. The collection’s primary color was pink and was inspired by Marie Laurencin’s pastel palette of the 1910s and her portrait of Chanel in 1923. Lagerfeld decided to take a more causal approach on this season’s couture line stating that, “life is not a cocktail party”. The show was opened with denim house tweed-suits that were made in washed-out pale blue and pink with a slim leg and chunky buttons at the ankle. They were paired with beaded t-shirts. But that wasn’t the only thing that showed at the show. There were also tunics, tank tops and long, sweeping skirts. - Damonica Boone
