The Allure of Couture
Fashion Focus 2007 was a full week of fashion spectaculars proving that Chicago is a very crucial and impressive fashion capital. So what better than a fabulous event to close off a week of other fabulous events? “The Allure of Couture” was held October 14th at the Chase Promenade North Tent at Millennium Park and celebrated the end of a perfectly chic week. The idea of the event was to showcase designers that honored their heritage and included culture into their designs. It distinguished one of Chicago’s defining features-our ethnic neighborhoods and immigrant communities that shapes the Windy City’s individuality. “The Allure of Couture” aimed at bringing together the flavor of the cultural designs with today’s mainstream ones. They also made a point of encouraging the next generation of designers to maintain tradition within their work. The fashion show exhibited both emerging designers as well as classic ones and included the following: Barbara Bates, Jack Cave, Nick Cave, James de Colon, Sujata Gazder, D’Wayne Lonzo, Horacio Nieto, PriceWalton, Kristina Sparks, Double Stitch and Sylwia Wilczynska, as well as many others. The display of all these cultural works helped the audience and fellow designers recognize the importance of Chicago’s impact on the global fashion industry-a huge success as that was a main goal of Fashion Focus. The high-end designs shined brightly on the stage and created a perfect finish to a week of proof that Chicago style is here to stay, even if we might be fashionably late!
