Sister Cities International Program’s World Fashion Chicago ( Photos / Show Video )
Culture Collision in the Park
Chicago’s Millennium Park became the most fashionable place on Earth when it hosted World Fashion Chicago, a fashion show featuring high-end designs from our hometown inspired by its 27 sister cities across the world including: Moscow, Osaka, and Belgrade as well as Europe’s own fashion capitals: Milan and Paris. It was a one night only trip around the world (no passport required) and the catwalk created an international runway for fashions to land.
Opening the show, Duvall showed some patriotism with a trio of eveningwear in red, white and blue and the models removed suit jackets to reveal identical gray vests with the words “World”, “Fashion” and “Chicago” emblazoned across their backs bringing global fashion to city. The show captured strong designs from Marie Saint Pierre, SERPICO, Jasmine Di Milo and Jenny Packham who drew inspiration from Toronto, Milan, Paris and Birmingham, England. The highlight was a slate grey, herringbone mini dress by Di Milo, expertly finished with a vest-style busier and chic pin tucking. Amongst the talented locals, fashion powerhouses Akris and Escada represented their roots from Switzerland and Germany.
Also featured were the collections of Cynthia Castro (Mexico City), Haden Yoo (Busan, Korea), Dame Couture Bridal (Gothenburg, Sweden) and Contessa (Athens, Greece), among many more.
As the African drums pounded in the tent at the Chase North Promenade of the Park, Chicago’s society scene mingled around the African-themed space armed with cocktails before they headed into the tent. And after, the party continued at Rockit Bar & Grill where they hosted the fashion elite with a world-class fête in classic Chicago style. Around the world in an evening, and all you needed was a killer outfit.
