Dalmore
The Dalmore Family

Dalmore

What: The Dalmore is one of the most popular single malt scotches in the world. Created in the prime barley-growing district in Scotland’s Northern Highland region, The Dalmore is a spirit of distinction and pedigree. Shaped by time, water and weather, it deserves its place as one of the world’s most respected whiskies and rewards its loyal admirers with a unique, full taste that reflects its origins.

The Dalmore story began in 1839 when Alexander Matheson founded the unique distillery. In 1867, the Mackenzie family acquired that distillery. When a member of the Mackenzie family risked his own life to save Scotland’s ruler, King Alexander III, from a charging stag, the grateful king offered a token of his appreciation. The king bequeathed the stag to the Mackenzie family as a symbol of valor and courage. Today, more than 130 years later, the stag head still appears on every bottle of The Dalmore.

The Dalmore distillery has 10 stone warehouses and eight pot-stills, several which date to the late 1800s. Much of the distillery was burnt down during World War I while occupied by the U.S. Navy, but production resumed in 1922.

Why it’s hot: The company owns the sole rights to the crystal clear water from River Alness, which is the most desirable quality water for distilling purposes.

The variations: Available in 12-year, 21-year, Stillman’s Dram and the Cigar Malt. Chocolate and spice are just two of the more unusual and unexpected "notes" among the multitude of flavours and aromas that can be discovered in The Dalmore.
