The Golden Candle

Lana Fertelmeister, Chicago’s resident gold-and-diamond queen, is a true force of fashion. Her sleek designs have graced the ears of Cameron Diaz, the neck of Michelle Pfeiffer, and are sold in some of the country’s most chi-chi little shops (hotspots from Fred Segal to Helen Yi are proud to carry Lana.) Lana’s trademark “Just add skin” sums up the immediate glamour effect of her jewelry: just slip on a Lana original and you’re set to dazzle.

However, the designer knows that the luxurious effect of a good accessory shouldn’t be limited to the body. In her latest venture, Lana is looking to “provide and surround women with fine jewelry throughout their everyday lives.” This winter, Fertelmeister extends her golden touch from the skin to the home as she launches her first piece of “jewelry for your life”: the 24KT Gold Heat Candle.

Far from your typical light-it-and-go candle, Lana’s creation gilds its surroundings in glamour: Gold Heat is dusted with a gram of 24 karat gold flakes, so lighting the candle is actually burning gold. The effect is a honey-hued glow (guaranteed to reappear with every light) that gives the candle its seductive name.

Then there’s the fragrance: Gold Heat is hand poured with 12% of pure perfume, the highest concentration ever to be used in a candle. The custom-blended creation includes a set of sexy aromas: black tea, lavender, sweet rose, mandarin, peach, red cedar and white sandalwood all conspire in the candle’s knockout scent.

Lana’s eye for style extends to Gold Heat’s uber-cool packaging: Each candle comes in a chic circular glass tucked into a richly-textured, custom-made box. Even cooler? The candle burns for about 60 hours, ensuring oodles of softly-lit and glamorous moments this winter.

Lana hopes that Gold Heat will add to the overall feeling of elegance that fans have come to expect from her jewelry: “I created this luxury candle as Jewelry for your life, a must-have treasure that will ignite instant style when lighting it at home, at the office, or when giving that person who has everything the perfect gift” she says.

The limited-edition candle (only 3000 were made, ladies) is available for purchase at the State Street Marshall Field’s, Elements on E. Oak Street and at Helen Yi on Damen Ave in Chicago.
