Caffeine – Aided Beauty
The grounds for a beautiful complexion
by Melissa Maynard

Caffeine is known to stimulate. While enticing our senses, it may even enhance our complexions, rid cellulite, puffiness and aid in preventing skin cancer. It looks like caffeine has a positive effect after all.
In a study at Rutgers University, it was found that when lotion enriched with caffeine was smeared onto mice with melanoma, tumors that were malignant decreased by 72%. Beauty companies around the globe are possibly taking notice of the benefits of caffeine, adding our favorite morning blend to some great products.
The grounds for beautiful, dimple free skin is undoubtedly caffeine. “The sublime healing of Gotu Kola combined with caffeine delivers a positive effect on cellulite. The caffeine blended with herbal extracts is known to draw out impurities to firm, tone and make cellulite disappear,” confirms Public Relations Manager, Kirsten Leigh Pratt for SHE Australia. Products including lotions, face creams, cellulite creams, fragrances and even lip balms are endowed with a fresh roasted blend of our favorite pick-me-up –coffee.
Coffee may be a sure way to get us up and going, but caffeine enhanced beauty products are a sure way to wake up the skin. Aura Science’s Recoup ($50) uses three little words to describe this miraculous product - Revive, Reinvent and Refresh. According to the company, the instant Recoup is applied, the weightless gel-cream spreads like water on the skin – moisturizing to cool and hydrate the skin. The pearl agents reflect the light giving you an instant vibrant glow, while banishing puffiness.
Recoup, a product rich in caffeine and potassium (two natural diuretics), combined with Vitamin E, quickly enhances metabolism and flushes out excess fluid from the skin, which ultimately eliminates puffiness. And, with long-term use you can look forward to a more radiant complexion.
Companies like Neutrogena, L’Oreal and Avon are coming out with cellulite creams enriched with caffeine promising to rid women of this much detested problem. SHE Australia is another company on the verge of targeting the problem area with a cream made of rich extracts of coffee and cola nut, curbing cellulite by toning skin. “Together with strengthening Vitamin E and the rejuvenating richness of Ginko Biloba and Kola Nut to create a firm, divine smoothness. Our Divine body balm, (Pure Coffee Vanilla Hydration, USD $11.59) immediately penetrates your skin, leaving it with a silky protective layer so your skin feels soft and hydrated with a velvety texture,” adds Leigh Pratt.
Other companies just like the way it smells. Demeter Fragrance’s, (well known for their popular Pick-me-up cologne sprays ($17.50) Dirt, Tomato and Grass), have added Espresso and Cappuccino to the mix. Cappuccino, a blend of coffee, cream milk and cinnamon is more popular than its coffee counterpart – Espresso, which of course is much sharper and darker. “I have noticed that people will buy them both just to carry around and sniff during the day. Sometimes the mental jolt is almost as good as the real thing and as a coffee addict, I personally will take it any way I can," says Christopher Brosius, the perfumer and co-founder of The Demeter Fragrance Library.

Mode De Vie, a Canadian beauty product company, has also added the popular aroma of cappuccino to a shea butter lip balm ($5.50), which will curb your early morning Starbuck’s craving in exchange for lips that are ultra soft.
With these products in mind, you’ll have rejuvenated skin, less cellulite and feel more energetic. That’s reason enough to become addicted to beauty products doused with caffeine.
