Todd Oldham makes an appearance at the 2004 MCA Benefit Art Auction
By Sara Smith

The MCA presented the 2004 MCA Benefit Art Auction with a special appearance by Honorary Chair designer Todd Oldham. The event featured a silent and live auction with many of today's most recognized and admired artists. Guests enjoyed cocktails and a dinner buffet by Wolfgang Puck Catering and listened to music by the Chicago Catz.

The Museum of Contemporary Art's successful Benefit Art Auction was held at the MCA Warehouse on Saturday, October 23, 2004. The Honorary Chair was designer Todd Oldham, who is an avid collector of art himself. He designed the invitation for the Auction and an exclusive place for the event. At the event Oldham was seen talking with guests, many of whom were seen to be wearing his designs.

The Art Auction featured a live and silent auction, with over 120 works by today's most recognized artists including Matthew Barney, Lee Bontecou, John Currin, Robert Mapplethorpe, Kerry James Marshall, Robert Rauschenberg, Cindy Sherman and Thomas Struth. The auction was chaired by Daryl Gerber and Auctioneered by Tobias Meyer of Sotheby's Europe. Thomas Struth's Paradise 10 was the highest bid at the auction, bringing in $60,000 for MCA.

Interesting attire was the theme at the event with the guests dressing "industrial chic", and being very creative in their own personal definition of the term. Some of the guests were spotted wearing rubber pants; a beer can tab tiara and assorted metal jewelry. The evening raised $800,000 in funds that are intended to go towards the financing future exhibitions and purchases for the MCA Collection.
