Doris Ruth Fall 2006

Doris Ruth Wears Heels

“Please be kind, wear with heels” is the catchy phrase behind Doris Ruth, the brand. The line reveals a great deal about the philosophy behind Doris Ruth. Clearly, these clothes are meant for the ladies who like to dress up but know how to have some fun while doing so. For proof of this, simply take a look at their fall collection. The color palette focuses primarily on black and gray, in tune with the darker mood of the season, while infusions of color keep the
collection decidedly youthful. These deeper colors exude a more regal look. Flouncy tutu skirts, an asymmetrical purple “temptress” dress, and a voluminous blossom skirt are a few of the season’s selections. Doris Ruth provides wide leg trousers, as well as an array of bright, elegant camisoles and puff sleeved blouses for the office. What makes these pieces attention grabbers are the added details such as an embellished
neckline, lace embroidery, unique spaghetti straps or slight ruching. There are also minimal businesslike shift dresses and a formfitting short jacket for that extra polish. And while all of it is chic enough to wear to a cocktail party, why not opt instead for one of her ultra feminine skirts or even a layered chiffon dress? For some more whimsy, many items are deliciously named, the “He loves me” dress and the “Kiss me Kate”
corset. According to Doris Ruth, you can never be too feminine.

Allie Adams is the designer behind the label, Doris Ruth, named in honor of her grandmother. In two short years, she and her creations have become darlings of the Chicago fashion scene. This Minnesota native moved to Chicago in 2001, and began designing in her dining room. Success came quickly for Allie with a number of celebrities seen in her clothes and her line spreading throughout boutiques all over the country.

To carry forth her aesthetic, wear her clothes with…what else…a smart
pair of heels.
