Lara Miller Fall 2006

Lara Miller - The Chameleon Designer

Lara Miller’s sophisticated and playful woven knitwear collections celebrate the feminine spirit and encourage you to be you. “Lara Miller’s convertible knits never cease to impress me. She’s always finding new ways to flip one piece into three or four looks, each one chic and sophisticated, each one comfortable and easy to wear,” says Wendy Donahue, style writer for the Chicago Tribune.

While tearing pages from her mother’s magazines at a young age, Lara drew
inspiration from the designs of Rei Kawakubo for Comme Des Garçons, before
even knowing the name. “My style is definitely very architecturally based; I had a huge obsession growing up with units and multiples,” the designer said.

She has established a clientele that shatters the mold and
contains no age barriers. “Women in their forties and even sixties and seventies are
purchasing items and lean toward sweaters, while the younger women buy articles such as halter tops,” the
designer said.

Designed with individuality in mind, the trademark FLIP Line was created to allow women to enjoy wearing garments in a variety of ways while projecting their individual styles. Long-sleeved shirts can transform into dresses and tunics, while cardigans convert into shrugs with shawl collars at the flip of a wrist.

Originally designed for the preppy that still poses a funky edge, her worldly yet pixilated woman likes to project her own style out into the world. “My customers are definitely intelligent, have cultural backgrounds and are connected to the arts somehow,” Miller said.
