adam+eve: fall 2006 presentation Feb 6, 2006 - 5-7 PM, Buddakhan
When Oscar de la Renta attends your presentation, you know head designer of adam+eve, Adam Lippes, is doing things right. Actually, he previously held the title du-jour for Mr. de la Renta (he was the youngest person ever to hold the position of creative director for a leading international design house where he worked from 1996-2003, involved in various aspects of the business, including licensing, sourcing, marketing and business development).
Now successfully delving into his own line, adam+eve, Lippes is truly recognized in the fashion industry as hugely talented. The line, launched in the spring of '04, is already making major waves. With what started as a contemporary underwear and sportswear concept for men and women, is getting major kudos for the ready-to-wear line only on its second season (it's first public showcasing was this night, and retailers got their first glimpse in spring). The new collection featured several pieces that we are crazy for, including the black taffeta rabbit fur vest, to the incredibly stunning silk shantung bow dress in mustard (that we want right now and is pictured right) and the beige herringbone and leather trench was also to die for.
The fashion presentation debuted at one of the hottest soon-to-be-open restaurants in NYC's Meatpacking district - The Buddakan (75 Ninth Avenue at 16th Street) by restaurateur Stephen Starr and designed by Christian Liaigre and is a whopping 16,000 sq. ft..We took in the design of the large-open space, which combines aesthetics of urban New York, the Far East and 18th Century Paris all in one. We enjoyed cocktails by none-other than Gran Centenario Tequila like the Angelita and the Angel's Passion. According to Dale DeGroff, master mixologist and author of ‘The Craft of the Cocktail,’ “When creating sublime Tequila cocktails, my first choice is Gran Centenario. This collection of ultra-premium Tequilas is unsurpassed in quality and taste – so much so that I’ve crafted original recipes for the brands including the Angel’s Passion, the Heavenly Cosmolito, the Heavenly Highball and the Ruby Angelita. Each cocktail includes a unique combination of Gran Centenario Tequila along with a variety of wonderful, fresh fruits and juices.” We couldn't agree more, as does Where to Wear's Jill Fairchild (see below).
Who wears it: Everyone....Already a favorite of Jennifer Aniston, Brad Pitt, Courtney Cox, Nicole Kidman, Jessica Simpson, Nick Lachey, and Ricky Martin.
And, more importantly, who we saw at the party... Oscar De La Renta (graciously met him, just ask our publisher if I almost fell over), Jacob the Jeweler (yup, had him flash the wrist bling for a pic), Margherita Missoni (love her - she was coming in as we were leaving in a cropped leopard jacket), Eric Villency, Francisco Costa, Alex and Eliza Bolen, Electra Toub, Alex Reyes, Jacob Arabo, Vogue's Meredith Melling Burke, Bridget Foley and Nina Garcia, Jill Fairchild (founder of Where to Wear shopping guides and the Fairchild Publications dynasty), among others. We also spotted Kimberly Newsome (ex-wife of the most gorgeous mayor in the U.S. a.k.a San Francisco's Gavin Newsome), but holds her own as a lawyer, Court TV, CNN commentator and other highly respected news channels.
