Blake Standard
Pierre Colorado, the design maestro behind Blake Standard, proved he has his finger firmly on the pulse of Chicago Fashion. At Fashionation, a collaborative event between Blake Standard and Gen Art to benefit the Children’s Place Association, the clothes were literally flying off the racks into the hands of savvy shoppers. An impressive crowd, including the likes of Melissa Gamble, mayor Daley’s appointed fashion czar, gathered at West Loop hot spot, Lumen to socialize and shop for a cause. Blake Standard generously donated 100% of proceeds from the evening to The Children’s Place Association, which helps families coping with life-changing illnesses.
With fantastic movement, classic fits and eye-catching detail, the Blake Standard collection bespoke of Chicago. Although Blake Standard is sold and distributed nationally, the style epitomizes the modern Chicago gal in its witty juxtaposition of comfort, practicality and individualized beauty. Each piece is light enough to be layered in winter or worn alone in summer. And as residents of the Windy City will tell you, a great layering piece is priceless here.
Combining the pragmatism of cottons with the sophistication of classically cut pieces, Colorado has achieved a fresh look. And he proves that he’s not afraid of including a little fun in the design; the unexpected pockets, snap closures, drawstring hems and jeweled necklines are predicated with playfulness.
The Blake Standard fashions were presented by models from Elite who stoically revealed the best of the collection from atop majestic posts of small platforms strategically placed through out Lumen. The walls were adorned with vibrant, expressive abstract paintings by Lisa Kowalski. All the while, Lumen bartenders busily served up complimentary wine and beer as scrumptious bites were passed to guests. For more information, visit www.blakestandard.com.
