Caracas, Venezuela: Miss Venezuela 2004 took place in Caracas, Venezuela on September 23. Out of 28 contestants, Maracaibo-born brunette Monica Spears was nominated the winner of the beauty pageant and was crowned the new Miss Venezuela. 175cm tall (5’9”) Spears, 19, who studies Dramatic Arts, was brought in from Miami where she worked for Katty Pulido International, a famous modelling agency in Venezuela and the United States. The second and third places were taken respectively by Miss Trujillo Andrea Milroy, who will go to Miss World, and Miss Capital District Maria Gomez, who will participate in the Miss International contest. The South American country is well-known for its striking women and multitudinous beauty contests. 43-year-old Maritza Saylero, former Miss Universe 1979, was also present at the event, and was paid homage for being the first Venezuelan woman to win the Miss Universe title.
