On Friday, July 11 the Women’s Board of Lincoln Park Zoo held their 31st Annual Zoo Ball.
The theme was ‘An Evening in the Emerald City’ and more than a 1,000 guests arrived excited to be treated to an exotic and magical night on the Lincoln Park Zoo Grounds.
As the guests entered they were greeted by Glinda the good witch and a stilt-walker dressed in green shouting, “Welcome to the Emerald City!”
Guests enjoyed a cocktail reception held outside the lion house and could sip on an array of cocktails, which included two martinis “If I Only Had a Brain” and the “Wicked West”.
While enjoying their martinis there were a variety of different hors d’oeuvres to choose from. In tribute to Toto (Dorothy’s dog from the film) there were sun-dried tomatoes and goat cheese on bone-shaped toast crisps. There were even hors d'oeuvres set atop a mini Emerald City!
The guests were then able to follow the Yellow Brick Road to participate in The Emerald City Silent Auction. Ruby slippers decorated the silent auction table that spanned the cocktail tent and packages included a big screen TV to a one-week stay in the Grand Cayman Islands.
After dinner the Ken Arlen Orchestra filled the Zoo with music and to complete the evening guests could enjoy the Emerald City while riding on the carousel.
