Chanel's Monet to Dali Ball
On June 8th Chanel presented the North
American Debut of its Fall/Winter 2007/08 Ready-to-Wear Collection with a runway show at the Vancouver Art Gallery’s fundraising event the Monet to Dali Ball. The event which also served as the Gallery’s exclusive premier of its anticipated exhibit Monet to Dali: Modern Masters from the Cleveland Museum of Art included a lavish outdoor reception, a sumptuous dinner, and live auction.
Upon arrival, partygoers were ushered into a stunning interpretation of Claude Monet’s garden at Giverny where they enjoyed champagne and French-inspired hors d’oeuvres while mingling among impressionistic floral sculptures, reflective ponds, and shaded willows. A classical string quartet entertained guests with the music of Ravel and Debussy as ball guests prepared to be among the first to view the most compressive showing of European painting and sculpture in Canada this summer. Monet to Dali: Modern Masters from the Cleveland Museum of Art features more than 80 works by such masters as Cezanne, Dali, Degas, Manet, Monet, Picasso, Seurat, and van Gogh.
The black tie event continued at The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver’s grand Ballroom, which received a full makeover reminiscent of an icy environment compliments of Chanel. The renowned fashion house replicated it’s stunning Parisian runway show following a decadent three-course dinner and a live auction of nine luxury items. Among the items up for bid auction were two Chanel watches with a value of $11,450 and an exclusive $30,000 golf trip to Palm Springs including transport on a private jet.
Presented by The Private Residences at Hotel Georgia and Mercedes-Benz Canada, the Monet to Dali Ball provided vital support for the Vancouver Art Gallery operations, exhibitions, and programming.
