Who: Laura Lachman
Title: Regional Events Director
Neighborhood: Lincoln Park
How long have you been at Gen Art?
Three months.
Tell us about the jobs you had previous to coming to Gen Art.Fashion PR on accounts such as Burberry, Bruno Magli, and Omega, Events Manager at Gucci, and Senior Fashion Events Manager
at Vogue.
What’s the best part about your job?
Seeing all of the elements come together seamlessly. You spend months coordinating and planning for one day.
What’s your neighborhood and what do you like about it? I recently relocated here from New York, so I am still learning about the neighborhoods. My apartment is in the heart of Lincoln Park on Armitage. It reminds me of where I was living in New York in the West Village. Tree lined streets, great restaurants and boutiques like Cynthia Rowley and Intermix, and fun make-up stores like Custom Colorlab Cosmetics and Benefit.
What do you like most about living in Chicago?
The restaurants – I’m such a foodie.
Where is your dream travel spot and why?
The Amalfi Coast – beautiful towns perched on the edge of cliffs, beaches, and amazing Italian food.
What is your favorite annual party?
Besides Gen Art’s amazing events, The Whitney Art Party. It’s fun, hip and young and has a great silent auction of American art.
What is something people don’t know about you?
I love the outdoors. I’ll trade in my stilettos for a pair of hiking boots any day.
What is your favorite art style and why?
Graffiti art – East Village circa 1980’s.
What kind of music do you listen to most while working?
We share an office with a music company, so we listen to whatever they are listening to. Obviously, they have great taste in music.
What is your signature style?
Ladylike. I love to wear dresses, skirts and heels. You will rarely see me in jeans or pants. I don’t know the concept of dressing down.
Where do you shop most and what are key items that people should have in their wardrobes?
I get overwhelmed by big stores - I love boutiques such as p.45, Jake and Roslyn. A bag that finishes your look, shoes that make you smile when on your feet, great costume or fine jewelry, and chic lingerie.
Do you think money and style go hand in hand or can style never be bought? Is it something you just have?
Style should be accessible to everyone. There is a ton of overpriced bad fashion out there. Of course, every woman should have investment pieces in their wardrobe that they absolutely love. These are the things you throw together with everything else and always feel confident in because you love them. I’m all about mixing hi and lo.
What can we look forward to from Gen Art this spring? fall? Shop Chicago, Film Festival and Fresh Faces. I’m so excited for my first Chicago big Gen Art events.
