Wearable
Architecture
Tiffany and Co. has spent over 16 decades placing themselves on a pedestal of success. Their consistent image of classic and well-made pieces have made them one of the top jewelry retailers in the world. So it’s no surprise that they have chosen to partner with world-renowned architect Frank Gehry, a Pritzker Prize winner. Gehry, known for his exquisite designs which include the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Chicago’s Millennium Park, the Guggenheim Museum in Spain, the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles and the Dancing House in Prague, has designed a collection for Tiffany’s which mirrors his artsy buildings. The collection also strays from Tiffany’s signature gold and silver. Gehry’s pieces are molded from unusual black gold, pernambuco gold, and cocholong stone. Tiffany’s Senior Vice President of Merchandising, Jon King, seemed quite impressed, stating, “Only an artist and master builder of Mr. Gehry’s caliber could express such affinity for metal, stone and wood.”
Some of the collection’s stand-out pieces are the Gehry Fish gold necklace, the Torque rings and the one-of-a-kind Gehry Bilbao brooch which retails for $1 million. The striking brooch, styled after the floor of the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, features 692 baguette and 14 square cut diamonds set in platinum and is a prime example of the level of talent Gehry holds. His pieces are like wearable architecture, designed and structured so directly and uniquely. Tiffany’s refers to the designer’s work as “chic, glamorous and fashionable,” and they appear to be right on. He has a fresh new vision for the classic brand, and we couldn’t be more inspired.

Amy Draper is an artist who is known for her attention to detail and nature inspired pieces. Her art is her jewelry, a six collection line that features unique embellishments and fascinating designs. After receiving her B.F.A in metalsmithing and jewelry design from Indiana University, Draper moved to Chicago to begin working on her collection. A few years later, she has her own store to showcase her successful jewelry line in, as well as it being sold in other boutiques all over Chicago. Draper, who considers her pieces “wearable art,” handmakes all the jewelry and works with the texture and shape of the individual pieces to create items that are distinguished and beautiful. Her collections are all made of sterling silver, 14 and 19 karat gold, semi-precious and precious gemstones and can be customized to the customer’s personal designs. Said Draper, “I think jewelry is an important accessory that people wear that can not only make a statement about them, but can make them feel powerful and luxurious.”
