Chicago Style: Stacey Koerner: President of Beauty on Call

As President of Beauty on Call, Stacey Koerner has a keen eye for identifying hot new products and trends before they hit retail shelves. Her knowledge of the industry, combined with her visions for the future, are what led to the creation of Beauty on Call. Stacey realized that by providing on location spa services, she could provide consumers with something they had never had before: quality services at a fair price, when and where they wanted them.

Beauty on Call was quickly successful, with many consumers, particularly brides, instantly realizing its value. Highly regarded as an industry expert, Stacey is called on by members of the press for advice on top spa’s and cosmetic products. Stacey’s history includes having worked side by side with top cosmetic experts including Bobbi Brown, Trish McEvoy, Laura Mercier, Anastasia, Deborah Lippmann and Vincent Longo among others. Find out what's in her beauty bag, where she loves to travel and about her successful company...

FACTIO MAGAZINE: What's your signature style?
STACEY KOERNER: Classic-Hip.  I try to balance my wardrobe with pieces that are timeless with one or two seasonal trendy items.

FM: Define the style in Chicago?
SK: I think women in Chicago have great style.  I find Chicagoans  incorporate comfort and practicality throughout their wardrobe, but still focus on looking savvy.  Bendels was always my favorite place to shop and I was crushed when they closed, but now there are so many great boutiques that offer really unique great pieces.  I love P45, Be Fabulous, and Shop Girl.  Some of the most fashionable women I know are my pregnant friends.  There is something for every mom to be in Chicago so they don’t have to forego looking stylish throughout their pregnancy.

FM: What ladies (from which city worldwide) have great style and why? And, where is your favorite place to travel.
SK: I think women on the East coast have great style.  They always look so well put together but yet comfortable.  I worked at Ralph Lauren in college and I always loved the preppy look.  One of my favorite places to visit is Nantucket.  I am like a chameleon when I travel out east,  I pull out all of my izods, khaki’s, and cardigans and the great thing is, no matter how old your preppy clothes are, they never change so you always look up to date.

FM: According to you, which woman (past or present) has impeccable style and why?
SK: Style is something that is much about the attitude of the person wearing the outfit as it is about the clothing itself.  Sienna Miller, for example, looks great in anything she wears.  She carries herself in such a way that makes you want to emulate her look.  However, I could put on the same outfit with the big slouchy hat I would look crazy!

FM: What key fashion pieces do you always have in your wardrobe? What's in your beauty bag and which products can you not live without? Have any favorite spas in Chicago?
SK: Seven Jeans, a black cashmere turtleneck for day, a silk camisole for going out, black heels and a great bag.  Right now, I carry my Luella, a gift from my boyfriend.

My favorite skincare products include Dr. Brandt microdermabrasion in a jar, Dr. Gross Alpha Beta peel kit, and Philosophy Hope in a Jar  moisturizer.  When I use these products, my skin looks like I just had a professional facial.  For everday, I wear Stila Tinted Moisturizer (instead of foundation), Bobbi Brown Ruby Sugar Lip Gloss and for my lashes, Lancome Cils Booster lash primer (makes you look like your wearing false lashes) with Definicils Mascara.

My favorite spas include Urban She for bikini waxing and Spa Space for all other treatments.  I do however prefer to have my spa treatments in the comfort of my own home so I book my esthetician Regina to do my brows and microdermabrasion facial.  Althea is my massage therapist and she will come and give my boyfriend and I both a massage which is a benefit he loves!

FM:
What is your biggest fashion vice?
SK: Purses and lipglosses.  I have way too many of both but can’t have enough of either.  My favorite handbag designers are Luella, Gucci and Marc Jacobs.

FM:
What's a fashion no-no when attending special events, galas and more?
SK: Too much fragrance, glitter or anything that looks unnatural.  I cringe everytime I see a woman wearing the fake hair attachment at an event.  Simple is better, let your best feature shine and play down everything else.

FM:
How fast can you get ready for an event? Any tips?
SK: My boyfriend will probably disagree, but I’d like to think I can be ready in less than 30 minutes.  To take your daytime look to evening with limited time, I would recommend using MAC wipes instead of re-washing your entire face.  Add some individual lashes to the outer corners of your eyes, a darker lipstick with a little gloss and some shimmer powder for a glow and your good to go.

FM: What would people be most surprised to know about you?
SK: I am the worst at taking my own advice when it comes to updating your look.   Even though I get to try the latest and greatest cosmetic products and had the opportunity to meet some of the best artists in the world, I always go back to my standard look- wearing minimal makeup.

FM: What is the most unique aspect of your business, Beauty on Call? What's next for your company?
SK: Beauty on Call specializes in all things beauty related.  We provide staffing for cosmetic companies and spas.  We have top artists and stylists that specialize in wedding day hair and makeup.   We are a spa on location and offer services from microdermbrasion to pedicures to massage for corporate events, bachelorette parties and hotel guests among others.  We are currently expanding our staffing and bridal services nationally, opening a training school for artists, and will be focusing on corporate lunchtime services…get your brows waxed without having to leave your office!
